What Happened to Utopia? - Untangled Episode

Untangled was a politically driven show aimed at answering tough questions about how policies can affect even the smallest communities.

This episode of Untangled is very special to me as it was the first project I worked on at Spectrum, but its style is also the most unique. The creative team wanted historical cartoon-style graphics, which my art director illustrated. I then came up with the concept of animating the background with a splotchy painterly look with individual characters and objects painting on after. We even gave the viewer some foreshadowing of the style by painting over the shot of the host in front of the river in the same style we would be using for all the graphics.
